Where the Hell has Mochi been?!

I know what you may be thinking... OMG SHE LIVES!!!! o_O

First off, let me apologize for my unplanned absence from the online communities that I am part of. It seems that there are just some things in life that we just can't control. Where has Mochi been you wonder? Let me explain.

I graduated college in June. This brought not only excitement, but also a huge change into my life as it would anyone. However, graduating right now during these tough times is not fair at all. In fact, excuse my lack for better terms here, It sucks ass!!! I have been searching & hunting on a seemingly never ending quest for a job in my field. I have a Bachelor's degree in animation, and I'd like to get a job doing it! If not animation, at least some sort of media art that I am also trained in! Yes, I am already well aware that it's initially extremely competitive to get in to. Yes, I am already well aware that you need to build a network and know people to break into this industry. I have prepared for these things, but what I wasn't prepared for was the level of unemployment that would occur in our country at the time that I graduated. Did you know that unemployment is currently at 12% and said to be at 13% before the year ends? Holy crap!! How is anyone supposed to get a job with stats like that? Now, I've had some luck along the way, but not much.

Thanks to a school friend who introduced me to his work friend, I have a side job designing t-shirts for a start up t-shirt company. However, it only pays per project, which makes sense, and thus it is why it's considered a side job. When I am allowed to disclose more info on this publicly, I will. Expect to hear about it sometime next year. I've had a few leads on jobs too that seemed promising but then turned out not to be. Before I graduated college, I got a part time weekend job as a referee at a local paintball field. Well just last week it closed down temporarily for reasons out of the company's control. I hope that it reopens again. It was a fun weekend job that I really enjoyed. So now I am on call to work at another paintball field temporarily until ours reopens. I also got a job teaching 2D animation to a 12 year old boy for a few hours a week. It's a nice paying job, but also the shortest hourly job I've had. It's gotten to the point where I am considering going back to my old job at an art store. That is of course, if they'll take me back. In the mean time, I will keep doing commissions on the side, and look for more freelance work.

I've also been spending a lot of time taking care of my mom. She had another back surgery this summer, so I've been her personal driver and errand runner. With my dad working, and my sister not having a license yet, I've been the only one she's had available to her. I've also had some personal drama that I will not go into details here about, but my closest friends know what has been going on. It seems that this year is getting hard for just about anyone and everyone. Even those closest to home.

I am ashamed to admit that I have also fallen into a mild depression with all this that's been going on, and I honestly don't like it either. I am generally a happy go lucky positive person who is the one to always cheer others up and not sweat the small stuff. Part of being a Libra I guess? Balance is key. You know what also is depressing me? My birthday is in less than 2 weeks, and I have nothing planned at all. On October 7th, I will be turning 25 - a quarter of a century old. Is that a big one to celebrate? I'm not sure. Mike's birthday is the day before mine too, and I don't have anything planned for him either.

I would like to apologize to all my commission clients for my lack in communication lately. I feel like such a butt for leaving you guys in the dark. I know it's poor customer service on my part, and I understand if you do not want to do business with me again. However, I am dedicating the rest of my week to catching up with you guys. I know you may not trust me when I say this, but you should be looking forward to being emailed by me by the end of this week so that we can catch up and get things going for you. Again, I apologize to you with my deepest sincerity. We will work this out privately in our emails.

So there you have it folks. One of the hardest summers I've been though. Life at it's finest for me during it's shifting times. I know a lot of you have been wondering and asking, and I really do appreciate that you care. -hugs you all-

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to check and ton of unopened messages and catch up on things.

-Mochi

P.S. Thanks for reading.

COMMISSIONS ARE OPEN! + New Prices!~

Howdy my furry friends and fans alike!~

It's that time again-Commission Time!~ I'm offering digital media as well as REAL media this time!~ Also, I am selling prints of existing work for only $10 each + FREE SHIPPING!~ :D If you spend $20 or more on a commission, I'll send you a print of your commission for free!~ This goes for con badges too! The only rule with my work is to keep it PG-13. I don't do adult work. I like to keep it kid friendly. If you want adult work from me, I'll have to charge you in the 3 figure range, and it won't be cheap, plus I will charge you extra for the print and shipping if you wanted prints. Therefore, you're probably better off saving your money.

Here's what I'm offering;

Single Character Sketch - $10
EXAMPLE - http://www.furaffinity.net/full/1136351/
(Addtional Characters are $5 more)

Single Character Digital Media - $40
EXAMPLE - http://www.furaffinity.net/full/996557/
(Additional Characters are $10 more; Detailed backgrounds are $20 more)

Digital Conbadge - $20
EXAMPLE - http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2329094

Marker Media Character - $50
EXAMPLE - http://www.furaffinity.net/full/2491684/
(Additonal Characters are $15 more; Detailed backgrounds are $30 more)

Digital Icons - $10
EXAMPLE - http://www.furaffinity.net/full/2231271/

Pepper Shaker Icon - $5
EXAMPLE - http://www.furaffinity.net/full/1520375/

All work will be delivered via email, unless a print is requested, then you will received both a digital copy as well as a final copy.

Hey guys! How's it going?

I've been just swell. I graduated college a week ago, (ZOMG I'M FREEEEEEEEEE!!!!!) and I have just been fantastic. I've got a couple leads on jobs, as well as scored myself a paid internship in October for 2D animation and character design. (YAY!) I've been spending some time away from my comp, as well as internet life. I apologize if some of you may feel neglected by me. It's nothing personal, and I still loves ya all, I swears!~

I know I promised a con report from Califur 09 with video and pictures, and that is still happening. I will put that up next week sometime. Anime Expo is this weekend, so I have been running errands and prepping for it for the past week. I will be there in the Artist Alley at table C03 with some talented artist friends of mine if anyone would like to stop by. I will be selling prints as well as taking commissions there too. If you're going, I'd love to see ya there! Be sure to say hi.~ :D

Yep. I'm not dead folks, just busy. I promise to catch up with everyone after this weekend. It looks like a whole new chapter is beginning to open up for me in my life. More to come later. Until then, take care!~

Hugs,

-Mochi

My furry bottom just registered for the con, so look for me on Saturday!~ I am going to drive down for just the day. I would come Friday, but I have school, and Sunday I am working. If anyone would like to meet up, send me a note on FA and we can go from there. :) Otherwise, look for this 5'3" blond running around the con with possibly a sketch book in her paws;

http://tinyurl.com/onyudd

Sorry it's black and white, but honestly it's the most recent picture I have of me. I haven't taken any lately because I'm the one that's always behind the camera. :p Can't wait to see you guys there!

-Mochi

You win one, you lose one. *sigh*

So, for the past 7 and a half months I have had a part time retail job in a local art store that I have been shopping at since I was a wee little Mochi. Last Thursday I put in my two weeks notice that I was leaving the job due to needing more free time for school, since I am graduating in June. Everyone was sad to see me go, but understanding and proud of me at the same time, including my boss.

This past Saturday there was a posting that there was to be a mandatory meeting an hour before the store opens on Tuesday, the 21st. (Today)

So I get to work this morning on time in my mind that I'm ready to clock in and work, but as soon as I get there, I realize that I was actually late because I had forgot all about the meeting. F*ck.

I walk outside the back area to the sales floor to try to catch the last of it, and my boss turns to me and tells me to wait in his office. A moment later he came in, asked where I was, and I apologized and told him that I completely forgot, and felt terrible. (honestly I did) He then snapped at me about how he knows that I am leaving and I should act like I care more about my job, he's pissed, and that I should go home and not come back. Ever.

I lost my job, and also a favorite store to shop at. *sigh*

The funny thing is, there have NEVER been mandatory staff meetings before until today. I can see his point where he got upset, but I think A. he over reacted, and B. it was unfair of him to accuse me of "not caring about the job" when he knows I'm one of the most responsible and reliable employees he's had. Oh well, you can't win them all.

So here's the gain!

I got a part time job at a paint ball field on the weekends as a ref. My first day was this past Sunday, and I love it! Also, today Mike told me he's also moving up to a better position in his company! I'm so happy for him, as well as very proud of him.

I now leave you guys on a happy note with this image that made me laugh pretty hard. It's an image off loldogs.

Mochi @ ANIME EXPO?!

(cross posted from my FA)

Hello fellow furs!~

I am posting this journal to get your feedback, so please do so if you have any, for it will benefit me greatly and I appreciate it a lot! ;)

So, a close friend of mine draws anime, and she got herself a table at Anime Expo this year. She invited me to sit with her as one of her artists that could share her table. If all goes well, ( still working out the details) I will be there with her selling prints and/or sketches, and taking commissions. The website for the con can be found here;

http://www.anime-expo.org/

Now my question for you furs is how many of you would go to Anime Expo, and/or are you going? I know this it's not a fur con, but I do know that a lot of furs are anime fans and vice versa. If possible I would like a general idea of what percentage of the audience would be furs interested in my work at an anime con. This will give me a good idea of what to sell and how much of it, and if I should go there as an artist.

Any feedback is appreciated, and thank you in advance!~ Maybe I will get to see some of you there! :D

-Mochi

Ugh, so tired.

Forgive me if I ramble senselessly, I am running on an average of 5 hours of sleep a night, with Rockstar energy drinks in my bloodstream.

So far, this year has been nothing but exhausting and stressful for me. I work 3 days a week in an art store for 8 hours each day, and then go to school for 3 days a week for 8+ hours each day, so with work and school combined, my weeks are 48+ hours long. That's not including time for homework, house work, Mike, and Koro, our awesome dog. My only day off a week is Sunday, and I generally spend it doing homework or house work. Sometimes both.

I have been trying to lurk the online communities when I can, but it's for small increments of time each time. I am actually typing this entry while on a small break from my morning class. I am anxious and scared at the same time to finish school. I graduate next quarter (within the next 6 months) and this current economy has me scared to death about finding a stable job in my field.

I know that all this is temporary, and will pass in time like all things, but it's a matter of how much time.

My life has definitely gone through some pretty big changes within the past few months, such as a new house, dog, school, work, and my production team. I would like to elaborate on them another entry, when I am more awake to talk about them. -sighs and yawns-

Busy Mochi is a tired and beat Mochi.

Here's a picture of Koro, our 2 year old Pit Bull. He's the biggest sweetie ever.

Photo taken by Mike.

I hope you all are well in your lives.

-Mochi

We all have had or do have pets we love, and I know we all want our pets to be happy and healthy. Therefore we would do all we can to take care of them. They are our best friends, loved ones, and even members of our families.

With this said, I ask a small favor of you. I am spreading the word out for a donation auction for a friend who is in need of money for her vet bills. Her poor dog has been having some serious health issues lately, so she is offering art in exchange for donations to go towards her dog's vet bills. Her story is further explained in the auction description which can be found here;

http://www.furbuy.com/auctions/1007330.html

I ask that even if you cannot donate (I know the economy is sucky right now, believe me I understand) to at least spread the word for her and her doggy in need. Thank you for reading.

-Mochi
Rules:
* Grab the book nearest you. Right now.
* Turn to page 56.
* Find the fifth sentence.
* Post that sentence along with these instructions in a journal.
* Don't dig for your favorite book, the coolest, the most intellectual. Use the CLOSEST.

"If the thought of sex between women was exciting to me, I was entitled to amuse myself with it."

-The Best Sex I Ever Had! by Steven and Iris Finz, excerp from the chapter titled "April's Secret Dream"

...I picked the best book for this! LOL.
House Inspection

Well yesterday morning Mike and I went to the home inspection for this house he is buying, and he and I are both very pleased with the results. Things turned out pretty well, and A LOT better than the first home he was going to buy. Got the inspection report, and things aren't so bad, but more of a 'laundry list' as the inspector put it, such as little things here and there, like minor leaks and what not. There wasn't anything that raised any flags though. Mike told me yesterday that the lender is now processing the purchase agreement to get the loan set up. OMG, I'm so excited!!! *dances in her seat* More updates to come as I find them out.

-Mochi

House, Brushfire, and Paintball

A few interesting updates in Mochi's busy and crazy life.

House- Mike and I got another house, this one much nicer, newer, and overall better. We just found out on Friday that our offer was accepted, and the escrow closes on or before December 5th. We haven't had the inspection yet, and based on the previous inspection from the previous house, (which didn't go so well) it will make or break this house for us. More updates to come later as it progresses.

Brush Fire- There are currently 2 brush fires surrounding the valley that I live in, one just 4 miles north of where I live. I know what you're thinking, "Brush fire, OMG does she have to evacuate?" No, I'm fine honestly. The fire has been heading southwest of where I live, and I haven't had any warnings to evacuate at all. The other fire is actually not too far east to this house that Mike just bought. We'll see if fate allows us to have it. More updates to come as it progresses. You can read about it here;http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-wildfire14-2008oct14,0,860012.story

Paintball- Now, I don't think I've been posting so much about it, but yesterday Mike, myself, and a friend of ours played in the 2008 Spyder Cup tournament for fun. We actually placed 13th out of 20! Not bad for only going in there with a not so serious attitude about it, and only playing for fun. Just to give you an idea how serious we were, I named our team the "Bubblegum Monkeys" on a random whim, and we became a hit. :-p

So yeah, that's what's been going on with me recently. How are you guys doing? Hope you are all well.

-Mochi

Stupid house. >:(

Got the Inspection Report in yesterday, and it turns out that that house that I was so happy about was bunk. It needed another $30,000 in repairs, and Mike and I agreed it just wasn't worth it. Also, the renovation job was done with very shitty workmanship, so we'd have to re-do all that as well. That's what happens when you go to buy a 54 year old home. So we're withdrawing our offer and looking elsewhere. That's okay though, we're looking at better ones that are 10-13 years old, and much bigger for the same price. More updates will come soon.

On a side note, our birthdays are in like 5 days (He's the 6th, and I'm the 7th) and we've been so stuck on this house binge that we have no idea what we're doing. We both took the days off though. This year has been so nuts and busy for the both of us that we haven't even taken the time to consider our birthdays. Meh, as long as we're together I'm happy.

Hope you guys are well,

-Mochi
